THE LOVE GAUGE RAILWAY

A whimsical look at the mechanics of art and love.

The Love Gauge Railway is the story of a clockwork railway of the mind that arrives as a childhood gift, with a solitary train to nowhere, then grows into an elaborate transport system for the owner’s hopes, fears, desires, dreams and their long suffering passengers.  It is thus the story of a life - of its teething problems, joys and disappointments as viewed through a clockwork train set, from its simple beginnings to its sad but inevitable decline.

LOVE IS AN ACCIDENT -

THAT’S WAITING TO HAPPEN

In pursuit of love Marcel, a clockwork mouse, encounters disaster after disaster all of which combine to deflate his self esteem.  Dejected, he retreats into darkest misery until one day, in the midst of a dream, he winds his key subconsciously and in a cloud of dust is bowled over by a passing stranger.

JASON’S LADDER

A story of desire - of its growth, decline and reformation as contentment.

One of Jason’s first toys was a ‘ladder kit’, consisting of short uprights with two rungs, which he assembled with ease.  But as he aged and his ambitions grew, so did the ladder, until the task of adding further rungs to his daily climb became a burden and he reconfigured his life, his ladder and what really mattered.

LIFE AND HOW TO FOLD IT

Life is a word -  on a piece of paper -  which the owner folds, origami fashion, into various objects.  But with each fold the word becomes ever more abstracted regardless of what he tries to make of his life.

THE OCCASIONAL LIFE OF AN ALTER EGO

A man’s shadow reflects the changing view that he has of himself.  Sometimes he is tall and lean.  At other times he is short and fat.  He tries to hide, to run away, to lose himself but there is no escape.  And so, at the end of every day, he’s rolled up and together they fall asleep.
